João Vieira presents his vision of architecture at the Reference Architecture Workshops
Architect João Vieira, founder of Studio JV, was one of the guest speakers at the Reference Architecture Workshops event, promoted by Grupo Vía Portugal. Held in Lisbon, the event brought together architecture firms that are shaping the contemporary architectural landscape in the country, promoting a broad debate on the challenges and opportunities of current practice.
During his speech, João presented some of Studio JV’s most recent projects and defended an approach that values the industrialization of construction processes, without compromising formal sophistication and architectural quality.
“I strongly believe in industrialization and rationalization of the process, without losing quality and without losing the elegance and sophistication of all projects, regardless of scale.”
Reflecting on the role of technology in project development, he highlighted the importance of an open and critical attitude towards the available digital tools and also stressed the need for professionals to constantly update themselves, without fear of breaking with consolidated habits.
His intervention also reinforced the collaborative and human dimension of architecture, countering the idea of a practice centered solely on the figure of the architect. “I don’t believe in architecture made for architects. I don’t believe in architecture made for me. What I can do is guide and guide some of people’s desires regarding how they want to live. And I try to do this through architecture,” he stated.
The event was attended by several national and international studios, and was yet another opportunity for dialogue about the role of architecture in building a more conscious, sustainable and technically innovative future.
